CITY WIRELESS CONSULTING

Technology and Implementation

Recitation of Engineer on latest project:

"There were a number of technologies evaluated and selected that promised unique solutions when combined together to provide low cost, fast deployment and efficient service delivery. In addition, these technologies were be combined together and implemented with best of class business methodologies in order to create a viable and demonstrative model for traditionally underdeveloped cities commonly found in countries Mexico and Latin America.

These technologies and methodologies involved:
a) network bandwidth Quality of Service (QoS) routing mechanisms
b) redundant broadband wireless broadcast technologies
c) reliable and fully featured client access equipment for both Internet and telephone
d) digital dial tone provisioning and billing systems integration
e) network management and monitoring systems
f) ease of billing, collection, accounting and customer services
g) efficient project management and service reporting
h) ease of installation and simplified maintenance logistics

Technology Advantages of Note

The apparent advantage of the network topology as installed became quite clear as we began commercial operations this spring. Other competitive companies that have been deploying wireless services into the area prior to our arrival required the installation of custom built towers often 100 to 200 feet high in EVERY commercial office location paired with another 100 to 200 foot tower in the USA as an Internet feed. They would then “beam” the signals directly in a point to point manner between inexpensive Internet on the US side to the client in Mexico. In our installation, it became very apparent that the addition of a new customer hook-up only required a simple $350 external antenna mounted somewhere on the building roof or window and did NOT require a custom antenna or pair of antennas as would normally be the case. We therefore had a cost advantage of roughly $500 per location versus $10,000 per location. Installation time for a new client is roughly 4 hours including one site survey, and full installation of the wireless CPE antenna, running cable into the customer premise and plugging it into their network. Speed and reliability derived from the higher spectrum and mesh characteristics were also significant improvements over existing systems.
